It depends on the breed. Small or "toy" breeds can exercise themselves, getting enough exercise just by running around the house. Often large and small breeds need a good walk every day, while more energetic dogs - like hunting breeds - need several hours of exercise. Dogs tends to get bored and frustrated if they don't get enough exercise, so this is something to consider before you pick out your dog.
